Choosing a Travel Mug to Complement Your Small Coffee Maker
Two of the things that can quickly ruin an otherwise great cup of coffee are allowing the coffee to become stale or leaving it on an active burner to become burnt. There is a reason why the hot plate portion of a coffee maker is called a burner – it burns coffee and does so quickly. To avoid burning your freshly brewed coffee it’s possible to simply turn off your small coffee maker, but then there is the issues of staling. Both of these issues can be solved by using a quality travel mug. It may seem that all travel mugs are created equal, but there are certain features to look for in a coffee mug to keep your coffee hot and tasting fresh for hours. The following post will point out the features to look for in a mug including the materials it is made out of, the features that make it user friendly and most importantly, how long it can keep your beverage hot.
As a coffee fanatic and someone who tends to enjoy their coffee over an extended period of time, I have searched far and wide for the perfect mug. Although my morning commute is fairly average in length, I like to enjoy my coffee during my drive and also after I get to the office. I needed a mug that would keep my coffee close to serving temperature for at least an hour while also being leak proof and durable. The type of mug that captured all of these qualities was a dual walled vacuum sealed stainless steel mug made by Thermos Nissan with a leak proof lid. This particular mug keeps my coffee steaming hot for about an hour and very warm for an hour after that. The lid screws onto the mug creating an airtight vacuum seal that completely prevents leaks. I’ve never experienced a leak from this mug despite how rough I handle it or where I take it. To enjoy the coffee I simply unscrew the lid slightly and take a sip, each time hearing the vacuum seal release the wonderful aromas of a great cup of coffee. The dual wall insulation keeps hot beverages hot and cold beverages cold without transferring temperature to the outside of the mug. The size of the mug allows it to fit perfectly in most vehicle cup holders and the stainless steel construction is durable and looks sharp.
Purchasing a travel mug is an investment in your future enjoyment of great coffee, and at around $20.00 for a highly reviewed stainless vacuum sealed mug, it’s an easy decision to make.
